Ghanaian Players Abroad – 16-18 May, 2014: Gyan scores to win Cup final; Accam loses Cup final; Assifuah brace; Muntari, Andre, Otoo, Boakye Yiadom on target

Asamoah Gyan, Presidents CupBy Ing. George-Patrick Bediaku (Follow George-Patrick on Twitter @gpbediaku)

The major leagues have ended the seasons. And Ghanaian players were involved, either in the winning or losing situations.

Asamoah Gyan, who can’t seem to stop scoring, grabbed the winning goal as Al Ain won the UAE President’s Cup. That is the fourth title he has won in three years at the club. He scored his 6th goal in 5 games of the competition. And in 42 games in all competitions this season, Gyan has scored 45 goals. Wow!

Fatau Dauda may not have played but Orlando Pirates won the Nedbank Cup, so yes, he has won a title in his debut season in South Africa.

Someone who will not be as happy is David Accam whose Helsingborg lost 0-1 to Elfsborg in the Svenska Cupen final in Sweden, especially after he missed a couple of good chances to score.

Jordan Ayew is also among the list of unhappy ones as Sochaux were relegated on the final day. But it is Jonathan Mensah who will be happy as Evian TG survived the drop at the expense of Sochaux. Andre Ayew also ended on a high note as his goal secured a win for Marseille on the last day. Muntari’s rocket of a goal helped AC Milan to a win.

Mahatma Otoo has found his scoring boots, Richmond Boakye Yiadom scored a consolation goal, Sadat Bukari scored in Romania and Ebenezer Assifuah-Inkoom grabbed a brace.

Ghanaian Players Abroad – WEEKDAY WRAP – 5 – 8 May: Gyan hits 100 goals; Sumaila wins PSL, Akaminko loses Turkish Cup; Assifuah, Bukari on target

Asamoah Gyan, Al Ain-By Ing. George-Patrick Bediaku (Follow on Twitter @gpbediaku)

This week was another eventful one with many Ghanaians in action for their various teams.

Asamoah Gyan grabbed the headlines when he scored his 100th goal since moving to the UAE. He achieved this fete in 92 games in all competitions. He has come under the kosh for his choice of a ‘not-so-competitive’ league. But this goal haul, coupled with the titles won and the records he’s broken is definitely impressive.

Rashid Sumaila’s Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the South African PSL in his first season. Congrats!

But not so good news for Jerry Akaminko as his side, Eskisehirspor, lost out on the Turkish Cup with a 0-1 loss to Didier Drogba’s Galatasaray.

On a dark note, goal machine John Antwi was involved in a fiery situation that saw him sent off.

Ghanaian Players Abroad – WEEKDAY WRAP – 28 April – 1 May: Accam send’s Helsingborg to final, Gyan grabs another brace, Antwi, Otoo on target

David Accam ----1By Ing. George-Patrick Bediaku (Follow on Twitter @gpbediaku)

David Accam has been making a strong claim for a break into Kwesi Appiah’s World Cup squad in these past weeks. No, not in the media. On the pitch, where it matters. He scored a great solo goal to send Helsingborg into the final of the Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup). Pouncing on a clearance, he went on a blistering run from his own half to plant the ball in the net. And this was in the 92nd minute, after a frantic 90 minutes of play. Fantastic.

As is becoming expected of him, Asamoah Gyan grabbed yet another brace. His 8th brace of the season now sends him to 28 league goals. He is definitely ‘King’ in his Arabian kingdom.

Mahatma Otoo, thankfully, looks to have hit a good vein of scoring form. He was yet again on the scoresheet, even though his side lost.

John Antwi, another suspect, scored his side’s only goal against Zamalek, in their chase for the Egyptian League title. This marked his 11th league goal of the season.

These and more happened during the week. Enjoy.
