Ghanaian Players Abroad – 19-22 December, 2014: Jordan and Papa Arko on target

Jordan Ayew’s rich vein of scoring form was again evident over the weekend as he scored for his side. Ernest Papa Arko also faced reigning Egypt Goal King John Antwi and came out tops.

In the Premiership, Jeffery Schlupp played the entire game as Leicester City were beaten 0-2 away at West Ham United on Saturday.

 

In the Championship, Albert Adomah played the first 45 minutes as Middlesbrough lost 0-2 away to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

 

Italy

In the Serie A, Sulley Muntari came on in the 81st minute as AC Milan were held to a 0-0 draw away at Roma on Saturday. Michael Essien was an unused sub for Milan.

Richmond Boakye Yiadom played the first 45 minutes as Atalanta drew 3-3 at home with Palermo on Sunday.

In the Pro League, Frank Acheampong played 72 minutes as Anderlecht went away to beat David Addy’s (68 minutes) Waasland-Beveren 2-0 on Saturday.

Nana Kwesi Asare was shown a red card in the 92nd minute as Gent lost1-2 at home with 10-man Standard Liège on Sunday.

 

Egypt

In the Premier League, Ernest Papa Arko scored the winner for Al Mokawloon from the penalty spot as they beat John Antwi’s Ismaily 2-0 at home on Saturday.

In the Super League, Abdul Aziz Tetteh scored the only goal of the game as Platanias beat OFI 1-0 at home on Saturday. He was shown a 26th-minute yellow card.

 

Portugal

In the Primeira Liga, Benard Mensah played the entire game as Vitória Guimarães lost 0-1 away to Estoril on Saturday.

 

South Africa

In the PSL, John Paintsil played the entire game, Mohammed Anas (77 minutes) scored Maritzburg United’s equaliser but they succumbed to a 2-1 away defeat to Polokwane City on Saturday.

Edwin Gyimah played the entire game as Mpumalanga Black Aces lost 0-1 away to leaders Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday. He was shown a 36th-minute yellow card.

 

Turkey

In the Super Lig, Abdul Majeed Waris came on in the 59th minute as Trabzonspor went away and drew 3-3 with Bursaspor on Sunday.

Abdul Baba Rahman played the entire game as Augsburg lost 0-2 away at Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga.

John Paintsil played the entire game, Mohammed Awal played 57 minutes as Maritzburg United lost 1-2 at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL.

 

Wednesday, December 17

Frank Acheampong opened the scoring as Anderlecht thrashed Zulte-Waregem 3-0 in the Belgium Cup. He was shown a 32nd-minute yellow card.

Abdul Aziz Tetteh played the entire game as Platanias lost 0-1 away at Panaitolikos in the Greek Super League.

Eric Wuadom Warden played 70 minutes as Iraklis Psachna drew 1-1 at home with Chania in the Greek Football League.

 

Thursday, December 18

Godfred Donsah came on in the 46th minute as Cagliari lost 1-3 at home to Serie A leaders Juventus.

Afriyie Acquah played the entire game as rock-bottom Parma lost 0-2 away at Napoli.

Asamoah Gyan opened the scoring as Al Ain went on to beat Al Sharjah 4-1 at home. Al Ain, who have a game in hand, lead the Arabian Gulf League.

Monday, December 8

Godfred Donsah came on in the 46th minute as Cagliari lost 0-2 at home to Chievo. Isaac Cofie was an unused sub for the visitors.

Joseph Alfred Duncan played 55 minutes as Sampdoria went away to beat Hellas Verona 3-1. He was yellow-carded in the 43 minute.

Derek Boateng played the entire game as Eibar hosted and beat Thomas Teye Partey’s (90 minutes) Almería 5-2. Boateng was shown a yellow card in the 70th minute while Partey was shown a yellow card in the 53rd minute.

John Antwi opened the scoring and helped Ismaily to a 2-1 away win over Asyouty Sport. This was the 2013/14 Top Scorer’s 9th league goal of the season.

John Boye was subbed out in the 32nd minute as Kayseri Erciyesspor went away and drew 1-1 with Sivasspor.

 

Tuesday, December 9

Enock Kofi Adu was shown a red card in the 93rd minute as Malmö FF lost 2-4 away to Olympiakos Piraeus in the UEFA Champions League to finish bottom of Group A.

Frank Acheampong played the entire game as Anderlecht drew 1-1 away with Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League and finished third in Group D.

 

Thursday, December 11

 

Isaac Donkor played the entire game as Inter Milan drew 0-0 away with Qarabağ in the Europa League.

Gideon Baah and Anthony Annan played the entire game as HJK Helsinki lost 1-2 away at Club Brugge in the Europa League, as they finished 3rd in Group B.

Daniel Amartey opened the scoring but his 9-man FC København succumbed to a 1-5 home defeat to Torino in the Europa League, as they finished 4th in Group B.

Seidu Yahaya came on in the 57th minute as Astra were thrashed 5-1 away at Salzburg in the Europa League, as they finished 4th in Group D. Sadat Bukari was an unused sub for the visitors.

Mubarak Wakaso played 77 minutes as Celtic went away and lost 3-4 to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, as they finished 2nd in Group D.

Christian Atsu played the first 11 minutes as Everton lost 0-1 at home to Krasnodar in the Europa League, but topped Group H.

Emmanuel Okyere Boateng played 68 minutes, Alhassan Wakaso came on in the 77th minute as Rio Ave beat AaB 2-0 at home in the Europa League, as they finished 3rd in Group J.

Eugene Ansah came on in the 78th minute as Lokeren went away to beat Metalist 1-0 in the Europa League, but as they finished 4th in Group L.

Jeffery Schlupp played the entire game as 10-man bottom Leicester City lost 1-3 at home to Liverpool. He was shown a yellow card in the 75th minute.

Jordan Ayew scored another penalty to equalise and earn his side a draw as Lorient drew 1-1 at home with leaders Olympique Marseille. This is Jordan’s second penalty in as many games (in the space of four days).

Raman Chibsah played the entire game as Sassuolo beat SerieB side Pescara 1-0 in the Coppa Italia.

Sulley Muniru played the entire game as CFR Cluj came back from three goals down to beat Mioveni 4-3 away in the Cupa României.

Emmanuel Frimpong played the entire game and gave an assist for the winner as Ufa went away to beat bottom Arsenal Tula. He was shown a yellow card in the 54th minute.

John Paintsil and Mohammed Awal both played the entire game, Mike Mohammed Anas played 60 minutes but not before he scored twice as Maritzburg United went away to beat Orlando Pirates 2-1.

Frank Acheampong provided two assists to ensure Belgium Pro League leaders Anderlecht extended their stay atop the table. Not too good news for Afriyie Acquah and Mahatma Otoo. Afriyie played in a game where his Parma side lost by seven goals to a Kwadwo Asamoah-less Juventus. And for Mahatma, his Sogndal side was relegated from the Norwegian Eliteserien.

It was a rather slow week in terms of Ghanaian activity as most leagues have gone on break, releasing their players for their respective national teams’ duty.
