Ghanaian Players Abroad – WEEKDAY WRAP – 20-23 October, 2014: Amartey on target in Europa, others in action

Monday, October 20.

Emmanuel Frimpong came on in the 63rd minute as Ufa drew 1-1 at home with Torpedo Moskva. He was shown a 75th-minute yellow card.

David Accam (on in the 59th minute) and Ema Boateng (on in the 74th minute) both played in Helsingborg’s 0-2 away loss to Falkenberg. Godwsay Donyoh was an unused sub for the hosts.

 

Tuesday, October 21.

Albert Adomah played the entire game as Middlesbrough lost 0-2 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kevin-Prince Boateng played the first 45 minutes as Schalke 04 beat Sporting CP 4-3 at home in the UEFA Champions League.

 

Wednesday, October 22.

Enock Kofi Adu played the entire game as Malmö FF succumbed to a second half routing to lost 0-5 away to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Kwadwo Asamoah played the entire game as Juventus suffered a shock 0-1 away defeat to Olympiakos Piraeus in the UEFA Champions League.

Frank Acheampong played the entire game as Anderlecht lost 1-2 at home to Arsenal.

Abdul Basit Adam came on in the 65th minute as Free State Stars drew 0-0 at home with John Arwuah’s (70 mins) bottom AmaZulu.

John Paintsil and Awal Mohammed both played the entire game, as Mohammed Anas came off the bench in the 68th minute to score the winner as Maritzburg United went away to beat SuperSport United 4-1.

 

Thursday, October 23.

Alhassan Wakaso played the entire game, Emmanuel Okyere Boateng came on in the 70th minute as Rio Ave lost 1-2 away to Steaua Bucuresti in the UEFA Europa League. Wakaso was yellow-carded in the 43rd minute.

Abdul Majeed Waris played the entire game as Trabzonspor beat Lokeren 2-0 at home in the UEFA Europa League.

Gideon Baah and Anthony Annan both played the entire game as HJK Helsinki lost 0-2 away to Torino in the UEFA Europa League. Annan was yellow-carded in the 43rd minute.

Daniel Amartey scored FC København’s only goal in the 89th minute before they gave up their late lead to draw 1-1 away with Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa League. Amartey was yellow-carded in the 49th minute.

Mubarak Wakaso came on in the 67th minute as Celtic hosted and beat Seidu Yahaya’s (90 mins) Astra 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League. Yahaya was yellow carded in the 8th minute while Sadat Bukari was an unused sub for the visitors.

Another eventful week for Ghanaians. Some in the Champions League and the Europa League. David Accam grabbed his 17th league goal of the season. And John Antwi scored another winner in Egypt. He just can’t stop!

However, it was also a week for firsts. Well…not so good ‘firsts’. Asamoah Gyan also saw his 1st red card in an Al Ain shirt after a wild tackle in their AFC Champions League clash. Afriyie Acquah also received his marching orders for the first time in a Parma shirt.

Monday, September 29.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu played the entire game as Udinese hosted and beat Afriyie Acquah’s Parma 4-2. Acquah was shown a second yellow card in the 77th minute.

Sulley Muniru played the first 45 minutes as CFR Cluj beat Universitatea Cluj 1-0 at home.

David Accam (90 mins) opened the scoring as Helsingborg went away to beat Mohammed Abubakari’s (90 mins) Åtvidaberg 2-1.

Zakaria Abdullai played the entire game as bottom Husqvarna lost 1-2 away at GIF Sundsvall.

Kevin-Prince Boateng played 79 minutes as Schalke 04 drew 1-1 at home with Maribor in the UEFA Champions League. Boateng was shown a 71st-minute yellow card.

Asamoah Gyan was shown a 70th-minute straight red card, after a wild two-footed challenge, as Al Ain won 2-1 at home but were beaten 2-4 on aggregate by Al Hilal, and lost out on the final of the AFC Champions League.

Reuben Ayarna played the entire game as GAIS lost 0-1 at home to Degerfors.

 

Wednesday, October 1.

Enock Kofi Adu played the entire game as Malmö FF beat Olympiakos Piraeus 2-0 at home in the UEFA Champions League. He was shown a 69th-minute yellow card.

Frank Acheampong came on in the 73rd minute as Anderlecht were walloped 3-0 at home by Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.

Ghanaian Players Abroad – 26-28 September, 2014: Otoo, Adjei-Boateng, Abdul Basit get off the mark

This weekend some Ghanaians were on the score sheet, but not all are your usual sources. Mahatma Otoo got his scoring boots back on, with Kwarasey’s teammate Bismark Adjei-Boateng also grabbing a goal. But among them all, it’s Adam Abdul Basit who stole the show as he came off the bench to score twice and win the game for his side.

It’s encouraging to continue seeing Anthony Annan in consistent action.

Ghanaian Players Abroad – 19-21 September, 2014: Nasiru nets hat-trick in Sweden as Antwi continues fine form

This was another eventful weekend for Ghanaians around the world. Goals galore as BK Hacken’s Nasiru Mohammed, who is seen as Abdul Majeed Waris’ replacement at the club, grabbed his first ever professional hat-trick. John Antwi, who was Egypt’s top scorer last season, continues with his fine scoring form scoring his second goal of the season with two games played.

It’s also nice to see Anthony Annan back in consistent action.

In the EPL, Jeffery Schlupp came on in the 85th minute as Leicester City recorded a historic 5-3 comeback win over Manchester United at home on Sunday.

We are into the third and fourth weeks of many of the European leagues. Many Ghanaians have moved around, changed teams and after a short hiatus, I’m back with your usual comprehensive round-up of their activities for their respective sides.

Here’s your comprehensive round-up. Enjoy!

England

In the EPL, Jeffery Schlupp played 76 minutes as Leicester City went away to beat Stoke City 1-0 on Saturday.

In the Championship, Albert Adomah was subbed out in the 94th minute as Middlesbrough went away to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 on Saturday.

Italy

In the Serie A, Richard Boakye Yiadom scored the 2nd goal as Atalanta posted a 2-1 away win over Cagliari on Sunday. His first goal for his new side.

Isaac Cofie came on in the 73rd minute as Chievo went away to beat Napoli 1-0 on Sunday.

Afriyie Acquah played the entire game as Parma lost 4-5 at home to Sulley Muntari’s (90 mins) AC Milan on Sunday. Michael Essien was an unused sub for the visitors.

France

In the Ligue 1, Jordan Ayew played the entire game as Lorient lost 0-1 away to Montpellier on Saturday.

Jonathan Mensah played the entire game as Evian TG lost 1-3 at home to Andre Ayew’s (90 mins) Marseille on Sunday. Mensah earned a 22nd-minute yellow card.

Germany

In the Bundesliga, Kevin-Prince Boateng played the entire game as Schalke 04 were thrashed 1-4 away at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. 58th-minute yellow card.

Abdul Baba Rahman played the entire game as Augsburg went away to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on Sunday.

In the 2Bundesliga, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh played the entire game for his new side as Aalen lost 1-4 away to leaders Ingolstadt on Friday.

Spain

In the La Liga, Thomas Teye Partey played the entire game as Almería drew 1-1 at home with Córdoba on Friday. 56th-minute yellow.

Armenia

In the Premier League, Edward Kpodo (90 mins) scored the first goal as Ulisses hosted and beat bottom Mika 3-1 on Saturday.

Emmanuel Gyamfi played the entire game as Shirak drew 0-0 away with Alashkert on Saturday.

 

Belgium

In the Pro League, Frank Acheampong scored (50th min) in leaders Anderlecht’s 2-2 away draw with bottom Lierse on Saturday.

David Addy played 76 minutes for his new side Waasland-Beveren as they went away and thrashed Zulte-Waregem 4-1 on Saturday.

Bennard Yao Kumordzi played the entire game as Genk drew 1-1 at home with Club Brugge on Sunday.

Nana Asare played the entire game as Gent beat Mouscron-Péruwelz 1-0 at home on Sunday. 33rd-minute yellow card.

Cyprus

In the 1Division, Livingston Ebo Adjin played the first 45 minutes as Doxa lost 0-4 at home to leaders AEL on Sunday.

 

Denmark

In the Superliga, Daniel Amartey played the entire game as FC København lost 0-1 away to Aalborg-BK on Saturday. 29th-minute yellow card.

 

 

Finland

In the Veikkausliiga, Gideon Baah played the entire game, Anthony Annan made his debut coming on in the 58th minute as leaders HJK drew 2-2 at home with KuPS on Friday. Baah was shown a yellow card in the 91st minute.

 

Norway

In the Eliteserien, Adam Kwarasey conceded four times, Mohammed Abu played 90 minutes as Strømsgodset were beaten 1-4 at home to Brann on Saturday.

Mahatma Otoo played the entire game as Sogndal drew 1-1 at home with Aalesund on Sunday.

Ernest Asante scored a last minute goal as his Start lost 2-3 at home to Stabæk on Sunday.

Portugal

In the Primeira Liga, Alhassan Wakaso came on in the 74th minute as leaders Rio Ave drew 1-1 away with Moreirense on Saturday. 78th-minute yellow card.

Richard Ofori scored an own goal as his Académica lost 0-1 away at Boavista on Sunday.

Benard Mensah converted a penalty to earn his Vitória Guimarães a 1-1 home draw with FC Porto on Sunday.

 

Romania

In the Liga I, Sulley Muniru played 90 mins as CFR Cluj beat Sadat Bukari’s (45 mins) Astra 4-1 at home on Saturday. Muniru earned a 72nd-minute yellow card.

 

Russia

In the Premier League, Emmanuel Frimpong made his debut, playing the final 45 minutes as Ufa went away to beat Krasnodar 2-0 on Sunday. 66th-minute yellow card.

Scotland

In the Premiership, Abdul Osman (90 mins) scored in the 23rd minute, his first ever goal for his new side, as Partick Thistle hosted and beat Inverness CT 3-1 on Saturday.

 

South Africa

In the PSL, Mohammed Anas played the entire game as Maritzburg United drew 0-0 at home with Edwin Gyimah’s (90 mins) Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday.

John Arwuah played the entire game as bottom AmaZulu drew 2-2 away with Polokwane City on Saturday.

 

Sweden

In the Allsvenskan, Enock Kofi Adu played the entire game as leaders Malmö FF drew 3-3 away with BK Häcken on Saturday.

King Osei Gyan played the entire game as Halmstad lost 1-2 at home to Kwame Bonsu’s Mjällby on Sunday. Bonsu came on in the 80th minute.

Godsway Donyoh came on in the 64th minute as Falkenberg lost 1-3 away at Gefle on Sunday.

In the Superettan, Zakaria Abdullai played the entire game as Husqvarna lost 1-2 at home to leaders Hammarby on Friday.

Switzerland

Super League, Samuel Afum (90 mins) provided the assist for the first and scored the second goal as Young Boys beat bottom Luzern 3-2 at home on Sunday.

Turkey

In the Super Lig, Abdul Majeed Waris played the entire game in his debut for his new side Trabzonspor, who drew 0-0 at home with Fenerbahçe on Sunday.

United States of America

In the MLS, Patrick Nyarko came on in the 80th minute as Chicago Fire drew 1-1 at home with Dominic Oduro’s (59 mins) Toronto on Sunday.

Schlupp, Acquah and Accam surprise call-ups in Ghana 26-man provisional squad; No Vorsah

Coach Kwesi Appiah has named a 26-man provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup and there have been a number of surprise gate-crashers.

Coach Appiah included Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp at left-back, Parma’s Afriyie Acquah in central midfield and Helsingborg’s David Titi Accam as a left midfielder.

The list which was announced at a press conference held at the GFA Headquarters on Monday afternoon did not include Isaac Vorsah and Anthony Annan, whose names were touted as possible returnees to add experience to the team.

The Black Stars will leave for Miami on June 1 for Miami to round up their preparations and face South Korea at the Sun Life Stadium on June 9 and leave for Brazil the next day.

Team Ghana is expected to arrive and train in Maceio on June 11, five days before the opening group game with the U.S.A.

Here is the full 26-man list to be trimmed down to 23 after the Netherlands clash.
