Ghanaian Players Abroad – 11-13 April, 2014: ‘I believe Accam fly’, Jordan scores again

David Accam -11

By Ing. George-Patrick Bediaku (Follow on Twitter @gpbediaku)

As we edge closer to the World Cup, coach Kwesi Appiah will be keen on having a very good pool of players to select from. A couple of our ‘usual’ Black Stars players are out with one injury or another and that may be worrying. However, for those players who are fit and playing, here is a comprehensive round up of their activities for their clubs over the weekend, Black Stars players or otherwise.

Jordan Ayew seems to be getting his scoring boots strapped on right as he got another goal for his club, who are languishing at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table.

David Accam is back! This impressive winger/forward ended the last season on a high and from the look of things, he plans to continue is the new Swedish top flight, which season started some three matchdays ago.

Another player of note is Chelsea loanee to Vitesse Arnhem, Christian Atsu, who also scored a goal this weekend. This youngster has been in fine form since his move to Netherlands and may just be brightening his chances of making the Chelsea team among the lot of Chelsea loanees at the club.

Samuel Afum is also back from his scoring drought. The former Hearts of Oak and Ghana Premier League goal king had been troubled with a couple of injuries that kept him away and reduced his sharpness when he returned. He will be hoping to prove his worth.

Ghanaian Players Abroad – WEEKDAY WRAP – 7-10 April, 2014: Gyan grabs hat-trick, passes 90 goal mark

Asamoah Gyan, Al Ain ---By Ing. George-Patrick Bediaku (Follow on Twitter @gpbediaku)

This week was very good for our Ghanaian stars and top-liner among them was Al Ain’s Asamoah Gyan. The cult hero of the oil-rich club – who recently purchased a $402,000 Rolls Royce – grabbed a hat-trick, making it his second of the season and hist fourth overall since moving to the UAE from Sunderland in September 2011. He leads the goal king race with 24 goals, four goals shy of his next contender, and has now scored 34 goals in 34 games this season alone.

Gyan’s overall stats show that he has now scored 93 goals in 87 games. People argue that he plays in a ‘not so competitive’ league. ‘Low’ league or not, his goal haul is definitely impressive. No wonder the Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed-owned Al Ain do not hesitate to fork out the reported $100,000 per week pay check for the Ghana Black Stars captain.

In other good news, a busy Kwadwo Asamoah – who played two games in four days – helped Juventus to progress to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they face Benfica.

League semi-finals on a 3-1 aggregate.
