Black Stars and Eskişehirspor defender, Jerry Akaminko, who featured in Ghana’s 2-2 draw against DR Congo on Sunday, says he feels bad for the penalty he conceded.
Akaminko was adjudged by South African Referee Daniel Bennett to have fouled Mbokani, after he tugged on the shirt of the Congo striker. Mbokani converted the penalty to earn DR Congo a draw, having been two goals down.
Akaminko said that he felt bad for causing the penalty but knew that this was normal and part of the game.
“I can’t criticize the referee, I can’t criticize myself. It’s football. I was the one in that position and the referee felt that it was a penalty. I can’t change anything about that. So I had to let it go, focus and play the whole game,” Jerry said.
“The fact that I feel bad is normal. I’m human. Things happen. I need to forget quickly. Everyone is psyching us up, telling us this is just the beginning. We need to forget it and just get on as a team. We drew as a team. We’re doing everything here as a team.
“Sometimes, in a tournament, things start off this way and pick up eventually. We need to forget about this, focus and think only about the rest of the games. We will make it.”
